Shepherd's Bush

Introducing Shepherd's Bush

The beat around the Bush has become a popular destination for visitors from far afield recently, since this west London neighbourhood upgraded from more than just close-to Notting Hill status to a travel target in its own right.

The airport-sized Westfield shopping centre has played no small part of this, with its restaurants, cinema and luxury retail spaces housing brands like Burberry, Dior and Gucci and drawing crowds from nearby Hammersmith and Holland Park.

The BBC might have sold off its classic Television Centre and moved staff to Manchester, but local cultural life still blossoms, with Shepherds Bush Market and its surrounding pubs and shops supplying a healthy slice of multicultural London, serving up Guinness to the sizeable Irish community, yams and goat meat to the Afro-Caribbeans and fair-trade flat whites to the young professionals flocking to this renaissance region.

Presiding over the west side of the green, this concert venue retains plenty of features from its grand beginnings as a 1903 music hall and now hosts major music acts appreciative of the intimate setting.

The home of the Queen's Park Rangers. The team is currently looking for a site for a new stadium, raising speculations about a takeover of the old 1960 BBC Television Centre site (catch the iconic building before it gets demolished).
