Introducing Canary Wharf

When London’s bankers outgrew the old City, this is where they moved: the ultra-modern Canary Wharf – or ‘Manhattan-on-Thames’. Amidst the steel and glass offices, a plethora of services and shops have sprung up, be it the swish bars and business class restaurants that line the plazas, or the subterranean shopping complex which runs beneath the towers.

      Best known for

      One Canada Square

      The iconic, Cesar Pelli skyscraper at the centre of the Canary Wharf development, with its flashing aircraft warning light.

      Canary Wharf tube station

      Designed by Sir Norman Foster, it is reputedly large enough to house One Canada Square, if the latter was laid down on its side.

      Where freight ships loaded with fruit from the Canary Islands once docked, these days Canary Wharf dedicated to a different sort of trade, and has become the work- and playground for London’s city boys and girls.
