Shoreditch

Introducing Shoreditch

London’s creative capital, Shoreditch is constantly reinventing itself, with new bars and restaurants opening by the week. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, another great new pop-up entrenches itself in a railway arch or warehouse. Amidst the cocktail bars and vintage stores are the tech and new media companies that have flocked to the area, with the area around Old Street dubbed ‘Silicon Roundabout’.

      Best known for

      Shoreditch House

The arrival of a new outpost of the Soho House group, complete with rooftop pool, in 2007 signaled the area’s move from edgy to establishment cool.

      Hoxton Square

One of London’s oldest garden squares, now encircled by bars and galleries.

      Nathan Barley

What ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ was to West London of the 1990s, Nathan Barley was to East London in the Noughties, a short-lived (and after-the-fact) but razor sharp skewering of Shoreditch’s trucker-capped creatives. See also Shoreditch Twat magazine.

Shoreditch has been declared ‘over’ more times than Madonna. And shown similar bounce-backability.
