Introducing Mayfair
With its world-class restaurants and international galleries, Mayfair is – in many ways – the jewel in London’s crown. Bond Street is here, an array of grand designer emporia selling luxury goods, as is Savile Row, the spiritual home of tailoring in the UK. Michel Roux’s restaurant Le Gavroche is a Mayfair institution – approaching its fiftieth year, it introduced a generation of Brits to the best of French cuisine.

In 2017 the Embassy is set to relocate to new quarters, surrounded by a moat, in Battersea. The existing embassy, designed by Finish architect Eero Saarinen and completed in 1960, is grade II listed.
The odd thing is that Mayfair is sort of cool again. It’s shaken off its Seventies playboy associations, its reputation as a naff playground for Joan Collins sorts and Omar Shariff look-alikes, and found its mojo. Londoners love it again for what it is; ground zero for a particular type of London glamour.
