Earls Court

Introducing Earls Court

Linking Kensington and Chelsea, Earls Court is at once a tranquil conservation area and a cosmopolitan locale. Both Freddie Mercury and Princess Diana once called this multicultural area home, as did a sizeable number of Australians, leading to the area being playfully nicknamed ‘Kangaroo Court’. Bursting with new and innovative bars, you can spend the afternoon playing ping pong over pizza before heading out for evening cocktails.

      Best known for

      Earls Court Exhibition Centre

With its in-your-face, flamboyant Art Deco façade, these huge halls opened with the Chocolate and Confectionary Exhibition in 1937.

      The Coleherne Pub

This was the centre of out-and-proud gay men in the 60s and 70s, with guests from Rupert Everett to Rudolf Nurejev, though drag acts performed here after Sunday lunch as early as the 1930s. Now operating under the new name and guise of gastropub The Pembroke.

Perhaps we can use two of its most famous past inhabitants to personify the dual aspects of this area – Diana, Princess of Wales and Freddie Mercury.
